BEUVILLE, Georges Pierre (1902-1982) - Lot 30
BEUVILLE, Georges Pierre (1902-1982) LE VOYAGE DU CORCALE Illustration in Indian ink and watercolour for the novel l'Ile au Trésor by R.-L. Stevenson, Mazarine collection, published in 1947 for the Gründ bookshop in Paris (printed in 1700 copies, hand-coloured phototype engravings). Beuville, nicknamed La Palette, an artist with a surprisingly lively and modern style, was a press and book illustrator, writer and advertiser. He had a major influence on many cartoonists such as Hergé, Franquin, Cabu, Bretécher, Gotlib, Follet... Drawing signed in the lower right-hand corner, the star on his name comes from the fact that, passionate about aviation, he was promoted to air painter in 1935 (Title granted by the French Minister of the Armed Forces to artists devoting their talent to aeronautics and space). Dimensions: 27.5 x 36 cm with passe partout, inside passe partout 18 x 26 cm.
