Georges Clairin (1843-1919) The swans, ca. 1885 Folded fan, the double sheet of paper painted in watercolor of a wood, and on the right, of an elegant woman feeding swans. Signed, dated and dedicated in black ink on the left: "À Madame Mathey/Souvenir de son tout dévoué ami/ G. Clairin 1885". On the reverse, the number "FM", for Fernande Mathey (1857-1941), among lotus flowers. Black mother-of-pearl mounting known as Tahiti. Silver figure on the plume "FM". Metal hanger. H.t. 31 cm - H.f. 17 cm (cuts, wear, stains) N.B. : Fernande Mathey was the wife of the painter and engraver Paul Mathey (1844-1929). The portrait of Georges Clairin by Mathey, testifying to their friendship, is kept in the Musée des Augustins in Hazebrouck (France).
