Animations in miniature, ca. 1780 - Lot 118
Animations in miniature, ca. 1780 Folded fan, the silk sheet decorated with three silk engravings in the taste of Angelika Kauffmann. Portraits of women illustrate for one the literature, and for the other the music. In the center, a scene of daily life in England. Ivory mounting with fine decoration of pierced scrolls, silvered. The plumes decorated with two oval medallions under glass. They protect two miniature scenes with mechanical animation (H. 4 cm). On one, a gallant offers a bouquet of flowers to a young woman. A discreet lateral pushbutton allows to animate it and the young man puts a knee on the ground. On the other, two hearts are burning on the altar of Love. A love appears behind clouds. The button allows him to descend so that he can place a crown of flowers on the hearts. H.t. 28 cm - H.f. 12,8 cm (important wear, restorations, mechanism in working order) N.B.: animation fans are rare and are probably made in French workshops during a short period of time around the 1780s.
