David and Abigail, ca. 1740-1750 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English, and painted with gouache of Abigail laying victuals at David's feet. His soldiers are around him. Rich border of flowers. Reverse painted of a woman with a naval anchor symbolizing Hope, in front of ships sailing, some flying the Dutch flag. Beautiful ivory mount finely cut, engraved, gilded and painted on two registers of a rich decoration in the taste of Bérain, of shells and houses. H.t. 26,7 cm - H.f. 13,4 cm (wear, restorations) Provenance: label with the reference 1821 of the former collection Henry-René d'Allemagne (1863-1950).
