Roman history, ca. 1700-1710 - Lot 52
Roman history, ca. 1700-1710 Folded fan, the skin sheet painted with a battle scene. To the left, a man wields a sword but is held back by a woman while another protects a child. Others fight in the center, and a woman flees to the right with a child in her arms. A Roman general on horseback is accompanied by a pole decorated with the Roman armies. This could be a scene of Roman life, perhaps the slaughter of the innocent. Reverse side painted with a cast of cut flowers including roses and tulips. In the center, painted silver (oxidized), on a cloud, Flora carrying a basket on her head and Love. Mounted in ivory finely cut with scrolls contrasting by the play of reperçage. H.t. 25,6 cm - H.f. 16 cm (small lacks, wear, stains)
