The shows of the magician Cleverman at the Robert-Houdin theatre, circa 1862-1866 Folded fan, double sheet of lithographed paper in black and white, illustrating the fantastic evenings at the Robert-Houdin theatre in Paris, during the Cleverman period. The face on a pink background is decorated with foliage and two caryatids. In the center, a view of the entrance of the theater and the crowd of spectators crowding there. On either side, a maxim and a thought among tendrils and caryatids. Marked on the right "Lith. Destouches Paris". On the reverse, under the inscription in capital letters "Robert-Houdin-Souvenir des soirées fantastiques de Cleverman", illustrations of the magician's most famous tricks including "L'oranger", "La Corne d'abondance", "La Bouteille inépuisable" or "La pêche merveilleuse". Mention "Imp. Renou and Maulde". Wooden frame. Ht. 23 cm (good condition, small wear of the leaf) N.B.: these fans were offered to the shows. Robert-Houdin rents his theatre to Cleverman (François Lahire 1797-1878) from 1862 to 1873. The printers Maulde and Renou are associated between 1836 and 1866.
