Les amours de Paul et Virginie, circa 1840 Folded fan, a double sheet of chromolithographed paper with five cartels punctuated with representations of exotic birds and monkeys evoking Mauritius. In the centre, according to the novel by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, the sinking of the ship carrying Virginia and Paul's despair. On the sides, four scenes from the happy life of the two children. Reverse: golden decoration of birds, vases and orientalist architecture. Bone frame pierced, engraved and gilded. Gilded metal bellows and tassel of trimmings. H.t. 27 cm-H.D. 13.5 cm (accident with plume).
