Rebus for a lover, circa 1780 Rare folded fan, the painted silk leaf of a young man offering a rose to the chosen one of his heart under the eye of a dog, symbol of fidelity. On the sides, a trompe-l'oeil map of the Black Sea, and trophies. Medallions with rebus allowing to read on the left "She is without a tower"; and on the right "She amazes by her beauty". Reverse: bouquet of purple flowers. Ivory frame* pierced, engraved and silvered. H.t. 28 cm-H.F. 13 cm (wear and restorations) N.B.: Rebus are very fashionable in the 1780s in France, on fans, but also on buttons or on porcelain.
