The fish merchant, circa 1760 - Lot 129
The fish merchant, circa 1760 Folded fan, skin sheet, lined with paper. In the centre, a merchant presents the day's catch under the gaze of companions. On the left, a couple is bickering happily, near a small flower seller. The sides are richly decorated with fruits including pears, grapes and pomegranates, and a bird fight on the right opposing cock and peacock. On the reverse, a shepherd is resting on the bank of a river and calls out to a washerwoman. Ivory frame* pierced and painted with three cartels decorated with fruit and birds, and in the centre, characters in the countryside. On the reverse side, the same line as the decoration on the face. H.t. 28,8 cm/ H.f. 14 cm (very good condition)
