The barnyard and the sleeping shepherd, ca. 1760 - Lot 127
The barnyard and the sleeping shepherd, ca. 1760 Folded fan, the double leaf in skin painted with gouache with an animal theme on both sides of the leaf. In the centre of the face, turkey, hens, rooster and duck peck in the middle of a meadow. A shepherd is watching them while his companion on the left has fallen asleep. On the other side, an exceptional panorama of undergrowth, with doe and deer running to escape the dogs and hunters. Ivory frame* pierced, engraved and painted, with mother-of-pearl powder highlights creating iridescence. A pheasant carved in the upper part of the plumes introduces the composition of the throat where various wild animals are found including deer and fawn, sheep and lamb, squirrels and butterflies. H.t. 30,7 cm / H.f. 16,2 cm (slight wear of the paint on the leaf and the frame, small old remains of the leaf on the reverse)
