Cleopatra at the gates of Alexandria, c. 1750-1760 Folded fan, full flight, gouache-painted skin leaf, mounted in the English style. 19th century. At the gates of the city, Cleopatra welcomes Mark Antony who came to visit her. His retinue of soldiers and maidservants accompanies her. Ivory frame* pierced, engraved, painted with gouache of trophies and birds, and gilded. Closed, the throat is decorated with a checkerboard pattern. H.t. 29,5 cm / H.f. 14,3 cm (O.B., small rest on a strand and a plume)
