"Virtue crowns them", 18th century - Lot 5
"Virtue crowns them", 18th century Circular cardboard box decorated with straw marquetry drawing two hearts under a crown, in a palm tree surround. Motto "La vertu les couronne" (Virtue crowns them). The underside is decorated with bicoloured rosettes on a brown background. Border in fine straw marquetry in Hungary stitch. The inside is covered with paper with carnation motif. D. 7,5 cm N.B.: a similar box is illustrated in J. Cooper-Royer, "La marqueterie de paille", Paris, Librairie Grund, 1954, plate V.
