Ferdinand BARBEDIENNE Round base in Algerian onyx and cloisonné bronze, the rim decorated with a frieze of neo-Moorish foliage punctuated with garnet cabochons. Napoleon III period. Signed F.Barbedienne on the reverse. A garnet cabochon is missing. H.: 5.5 cm, D.: 15 cm. In 1928, Hugh Grosvenor, second Duke of Westminster, had the villa built on the heights of the Torraca in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin as a gift to Coco Chanel. The seamstress will receive many personalities such as Winston Churchill, Greta Garbo, Jean Cocteau or Dali and his wife. Sold in 1953, the contents of the Villa are today preserved in the Dallas Museum of Art, where five rooms have been reconstructed.
