Head from a statue probably representing the god Zeus or Jupiter. He wears a beard and a hairstyle composed of long wavy locks encircled by a ribbon. The back part of the hair is distributed on either side of a median parting. The wide-open eyes and powerful eyebrow arches give the work great strength. White marble. Deep brown colouring and calcareous deposit. Visible splinters otherwise very well preserved. Roman Art, 2nd century. H. 18 cm. Provenance: Collection of a property in the Loire Valley since the beginning of the 20th century Several similar heads are kept, among others, in the National Museum of Bucharest (Römer in Rumänien, Cologne 1969, F 144), Istanbul (G.
