RZEWUSKI ALEX-CESLAS (1893-1983) Portrait of H. A. I. Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia (1890-1958). Drypoint enhanced with colour and white chalk on old japanese paper, signed lower left in graphite by the artist. Plate taken from the album n° 3 on a numbered edition of 10 copies, published in Paris in 1925. Good condition. H.: 28 cm - W.: 36 cm. History: eldest daughter of Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovitch of Russia, uncle of Tsar Nicholas II, she married Prince William of Sweden (1884- 1965) in 1908. Marriage unhappy, the couple divorced in 1914. After the Russian Revolution, she went into exile in Paris, where she met the artist. She was very close to the Prince and Princess Yussoupoff, through her brother Grand Duke Dimitri Pavlovitch, with whom the Prince participated in the assassination of Rasputin.
