PRECIOUS BOX - CASES. In gilded metal, rectangular in shape, hinged by a socket on the front held by a tubular rod, decorated in the center with a coat of arms under a red enameled ermine coat, surmounted by a double princely crown (German) set with diamond roses surrounded by a laurel branch and an oak branch in finely chased silver set with pearls and rubies held by a ribboned bow set with three cabochon rubies, framed by an elegant frieze of interlaced foliage and arabesques in silver-plated metal. The interior is adorned with a silver plate engraved with the inscription: "Souviens-toi de l'heure bénie, Où les Dieux d'une tendre main, Spread themselves over my life, Like shadows over the path, Since that enchanted hour, Which passes like a single day, Is an ever-full cup, Where my long-breathed lips, Draw happiness and love, December 27/6/January 1852 - December 4/16 1854". This handsome case was probably intended to contain a miniature portrait. Contemporary wear. Foreign work, mid-19th century, with no apparent hallmarks. H. 13 cm - W. 10.5 cm - D. 1.2 cm.
