Venetian needlepoint border, Italy, late 17th century. Decorated with twigs, leaves, palms and small flowers in a variety of stitches and linked by scalloped and picothed bridles, both ends and the lower border with small picothed rings. Cream-colored linen, later graining. Dim. 5.25 m x 13 cm. (good condition, some restorations, small stains or foxing). Cf. "Lace a History" Mme Santina M. Levey Fig. 196.
