GRAMONT, Louis-Antoine de, duc de LESPARRE - Lot 124
GRAMONT, Louis-Antoine de, duc de LESPARRE L.A.S. to an unknown lady Toulouse, October 4, 1776 THE DUKE OF GRAMMONT-LESPARRE PUNISHES HIS GAMEKEEPER WHO UNDOUBTEDLY POACHED AT THE HOME OF AN ELEGANT NEIGHBOR. 2 pp. in-8 (195 x 160mm), black ink on blue paper "Madame, on arriving yesterday evening from the countryside, I was handed the letter you did me the honor of writing to me. I beg you to rest assured that I completely disapprove of my gamekeeper's conduct since it seemed to displease you, desiring nothing so ardently as to merit your kindness, Madame. I will not pass judgement on my gamekeeper's misconduct, it is up to you to order his punishment, unless you wish to rely on me to take exact information on the spot, but in any case, Madame, you have only to order the fate of my gamekeeper, and I will comply with it with alacrity"... Louis-Armand de Gramont (1746-1795) was the son of Antoine VII de Gramont, first comte de Guiche, then titled duc de Lesparre in 1774. In 1763, he married Philippine-Louise-Catherine de Noailles (1745-1791), daughter of Louis de Noailles, Duc d'Ayen, and Charlotte de Cossé-Brissac. Philippine was also the great-niece of Marie-Christine de Noailles, duchesse de Gramont. Louis-Armand lived mainly in Toulouse, where he was arrested during the Terror.
