Chiyoji Tomo (b. 1960) - Lot 293
Chiyoji Tomo (b. 1960) "Yoroshiku Bugi". Original plate. Mixed media on paper: Screen, Indian ink, white gouache on paper. Glued phylacteries. 36x25.5 cm. Susumu Tsutsumi (real name) began his career as an illustrator in the 1980s. In his homeland, he alternates pseudonyms, signing Chiyoji Tomo for erotic stories aimed at a male audience and Kaoru Ai for erotic works aimed at a female audience. The founder of La Cúpula publishing house, Josep Maria Berenguer, discovered Chiyoji after a trip to Japan in the 1980s, and negotiated the rights to reproduce his comics. Chiyoji went on to work directly for La Cúpula, no doubt responding to the publisher's more specific orders and adapting to the European comics market. Chiyoji was one of the first mangaka to be published in Europe, and an erotic one at that.
