An important curved chest of drawers in violet-wood veneer, - Lot 262
An important curved chest of drawers in violet-wood veneer, decorated on three sides with black Japanese lacquer panels, the gold decoration depicting pagodas against a mountainous landscape. It opens with two drawers and rests on four cambered legs. Louis XV period. Stamped by LAPIE, master in 1762. Very rich and important ornamentation of chased and gilded bronzes forming the frames of the five lacquer panels decorated with foliage, falls and sabots. Large "_x001e_Médicis_x001e_" violet breche marble top with double molding. Height_x001e_: 93.5 cm, width_x001e_: 1m48, depth 64cm. Restorations, modifications. In our opinion, this magnificent commode, having been in the Ortiz Patino collection, one of the most important collections of 18th-century furniture, was enriched at the beginning of the 20th century with antique Japanese lacquer panels, completed with European varnish and these magnificent bronze frames. Other similar models are stamped by B.V.R.B. and JOSEPH. A chest of drawers stamped by Rochette, similar in construction and framing, was part of the estate of President Giscard d'Estaing, Drouot Me Beaussant Lefèvre, lot 147, December 13, 2022. George Ortiz Patino is the son of Jorge Ortiz Linares, Bolivian ambassador to France. His mother, Graziella, was the daughter of the Bolivian industrialist_Simon Patino, who made his fortune in tin mining. BVRB's fabulous red lacquer cabinet, preserved at Versailles, was donated to the Louvre in 1956.
