Ecole FRANÇAISE de la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle Presumed portrait of François-Philippe d'Anthès (1730- 1807), Seigneur de Nabsheim Gouache on vellum representing this gentleman in full regalia, one cane in hand, the other resting on a dog wearing a collar bearing the family name. In an elegant wood and gilded stucco frame topped with a vase of rose garlands. Sight size: 18 x 13.5 cm. The d'Anthès family is a noble Alsatian family, particularly well established in Soultz. Baron Jean-Henri d'Anthès (1670-1733), one of the family's first great notables, was a master forger and founder of the Manufacture royale d'armes blanches d'Alsace. The portrait we present is not clearly identified, but it could be François-Philippe d'Anthès, owner of the company. Philippe d'Anthès, owner of the Lautenbach and Vallon de Murbach mines, and of the Aprey earthenware, tile and glassworks, from the middle of the 18th century.
