The Entry of King Henri IV into Paris, France, circa 1850 Folded fan, the double sheet of chromolithographed paper by Palamède de Visconti, of the famous painting by Baron Gérard, executed in 1817, evoking King Henri IV's entry into Paris on March 22, 1594, and celebrating the end of the Wars of Religion and the regained unity of the kingdom. The sides feature portraits of Henri IV, King of France, and his mistress Gabrielle d'Estrées. The reverse features a scene in a château garden. Cut-out, engraved and gilded white mother-of-pearl mounting with flower motifs. Gilded metal clasp. H.t. 27 cm-H.f. 10.9 cm (wear, restorations)
