Wedding at the French court, circa 1770-1780 Folded fan, the double silk sheet painted with gouache, celebrating a royal wedding at the French court. France. In the center, miniature portraits of a young man and a young girl face each other. They are surmounted by a royal crown executed in gold thread. On either side, symbols of Love, including doves, torches, hearts, quivers and arrows. Pink border with panther spots. Dauphin Louis married Marie-Antoinette in May 1770 at Versailles. This is probably the subject of this fan. Dull reverse. Mounted in ivory, finely cut, reperced, carved, engraved and enhanced in color on a Chinese theme with three characters.
