Rare Protestant and Catholic bobbin lace headdresses, Hollan - Lot 452
Rare Protestant and Catholic bobbin lace headdresses, Holland, late 19th/early 20th century. Typical of the Dutch region of South Beveland - Zuid Beveland - these bobbin lace headdresses with motifs specific to this region, are weighted to the shape as they were worn by women in this period. The Protestant headdress, with its rounded shape, is composed of an entre-deux and a border in Lille lace decorated with tulips and a sowing of square spirit stitches, while the form-folded bonnet base is in Point de Paris and pleated linen. The Catholic headdress, with its rectangular sides decorated with stylized flowers and foliage in Lille lace and Point de Paris, has a bonnet base in pleated linen. (Minor accidents or alterations to both).
