Rare tie or flap with the figure of Charles X, Alençon, need - Lot 297
Rare tie or flap with the figure of Charles X, Alençon, needlework, circa 1824-1830. Very finely needleworked in Alençon lace, the two flaps feature the Charles X cipher four times, an interlaced double C topped by a closed crown with the fleur-de-lys, the symbol of French royalty, well highlighted by a plume of supple palms and florets, with a fleur-de-lys in the center of each flap. Delicate garland of leaves and small berries adorned with festoons festoon the borders, with a sowing of fleur-de-lys linked by the simple Alençon network. White linen - creamy white. Dim. 52 x 36 cm at widest. (good condition) This flap is similar to the one in the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels, Inv.D.3083. Cf. "Trois Siècles de Dentelle" Mme Risselin-Steenebrugen, p.284 fig.195
