MEMORIAL OF THE OFFICIAL VISIT OF TSAR ALEXANDER I TO LONDON IN 1814. Great Britain, early 19th century. Gold bracelet decorated with three oval medallions adorned with cameos carved in sardonyx, in the center is a bust profile of King George III of Great Britain (1738-1820), head turned to the left wearing a military uniform and the plaque of the Order of the Garter, surrounded by a frieze of oak leaves; to the left is the profile of Emperor Alexander I of Russia (1777-1828), head turned to the right and wearing a laurel wreath as Caesar, surrounded by a frieze of laurel leaves; on the right is the profile of Princess Charlotte of Great Britain (1796-1817), heir to the throne of England, head turned to the left, surrounded by a frieze of oak leaves. The three medallions are alternated by the Imperial Crown of Russia and the Royal Crown of Great Britain, held in place by three link chains. Slight wear, but overall good condition. English work, no visible hallmarks. L.. 17.5 cm - H. 3 cm. Gross weight : 38 g. History: It is possible that this bracelet was made to commemorate Tsar Alexander I's visit to England in the spring of 1814, when the Prince Regent declared a "grand jubilee to celebrate the recent victory over Napoleon culminating in the present glorious peace and in honor of the centenary of Hanoverian rule". On June 7, Tsar Alexander arrives in London with his sister Catherine, Grand Duchess of Oldenburg, and various other Allied leaders. A series of events followed, including a review of twelve thousand soldiers in Hyde Park and a re-enactment of Trafalgar on the Serpentine. Provenance: Christie's sale, London, 01/12/2010.
