SILVER WEDDING "STOPA" CUP, A GIFT FROM PRINCES RIMSKYKORSAKOFF AND DROUTZKOY-SOKOLINSKY. RUSSIA, Alexandria, 1852. Beautiful bowl, flared at the top, resting on a circular base ending on four ball feet, decorated with 58 silver coins, tokens and commemorative medals. Each coin bears the effigy or numerals of a Russian sovereign, dating from 1718 to 1844. The upper part is covered and adorned with a larger medal featuring the profile of Empress Catherine II, signed Timothée Ivanovitch Ivanov (1729-1802) dating from 1774, commemorating the "Kouchouk-Kindjersky" Peace Treaty. There are seven rows of coins, tokens or medals: First row: eight 5-rouble and 10-rouble coins, dating from 1718 to 1823. Second row: eight coins, including four poltinna, three polupoltinnik and a two-rouble gold coin bearing the effigy of Tsar Peter the Great, dated Great dated 1720. Third row: 12 silver tokens dating from the 16th to the 19th century. Fourth row: eight rubles from the 17th and early 19th centuries. Fifth row: 5 kopeks from the 17th and 18th centuries. Sixth row: five 15- and 20-ruble coins from the 18th and 19th centuries. Seventh row: 13 Russian "drops" from the 16th to 18th centuries. The lower section features a rouble dated 1796, minted during the reign of Tsar Paul I (1796-1801). This interesting historical coin was "made in March 1852 in the village of Alexandrine" and offered on the occasion of the 15th wedding anniversary of Princess Eudoxia Rimsky-Korsakoff with A. Kalenoff, whose marriage was celebrated on July 28, 1837, as the engraved dedication in Cyrillic characters, probably surrounded by the names of their children and family members, states: Larissa, October 20, 1832; Piotre, October 26, 1839; Victoria, February 1, 1839-1843; Veniamin, May 27, 1834; the princess Droutzkoy, May 10, 1836; Maria Sokolinsky, October 28, 1831. Weathered, but overall good condition. Russian workmanship, no visible hallmarks. H.: 25 cm - Diam.: 13 cm. Weight: 1 k 07g. Provenance: this bowl comes from the former collection of violinist Mstislav Rostropovitch (1927-2007) and his wife, née Galina Vichnevskaya (1926- 2012). It was acquired by the current owner from the couple's children. A certificate of appraisal issued by the Moscow Historical Museum will be given to the buyer.
