Mahogany and mahogany veneer pedestal table, the circular top in Bardiglio Forito marble rests on a baluster shaft centered on a double plinth base with four arched sides. Rich ornamentation of chased and gilded bronze decorated with flowers, palmettes, leafy garlands, stars and friezes of heart stripes. Empire period, attributed to Alexandre Maigret (1780-1825) Height : 80 cm 80 cm - Diam. 97,5 cm Alexandre Maigret was one of the most important founisseurs of the imperial furniture guard from 1805 until his retirement in 1826. He started his double activity of upholsterer and cabinetmaker in 1775 at number 20 of the rue Vivienne in Paris. He delivered furniture for the castles of Versailles, Saint-Cloud, Fontainebleau (the apartment of Madame Mère) and the Tuileries as well as the palace of Laeken near Brussels. His activity decreased progressively under the Restoration and he sold a part of his stock and the carpets of the Savonnerie to the royal furniture guard in 1826 before retiring. Two similar pedestal tables stamped Maigret were sold: one in Paris, Cornette de Saint Cyr, January 19, 1988, lot 132, and the second at Christie's London, July 4, 1996, lot 231. Another pedestal table stamped four times but lacking rich gilt bronze ornamentation was sold in the Lord Barnard collection at Christie's, Raby Castle, 10-11 October 1994, lot 127.
