École du début du XIXe siècle - Lot 166
École du début du XIXe siècle The Venus of Medici Large marble sculpture Height 110 cm (accidents and restorations) The Venus de' Medici is a famous Greek sculpture in marble representing the goddess Aphrodite preserved in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It is a copy of the first century BC of an original bronze statue that would have been made by a student of Praxiteles. Louis XIV had no less than five copies in marble executed by Martin Carlier, Clérion, Coysevox or Frémery and a bronze made by the Keller brothers. His bronze reductions are among the most frequently found antiques in collectors' cabinets.
