Saint Drogon in carved and polychromed walnut, hollowed out back. Standing, the holy shepherd is wearing a pilgrim's hat, a tunic and a cloak with a flap raised over his shoulder revealing a sack slung over his shoulder, sheep at his feet; monoxyle base. Limburg, late 15th century H. 101 cm (the hands are missing) Provenance : Ghent collection (Belgium) Shepherd turned hermit, then pilgrim, he made the pilgrimage to Rome nine times on foot. He then lived in seclusion in Sebourg in Hainaut where he died in 1186. He is the patron saint of shepherds and pilgrims.
