REDOUTÉ Pierre-Joseph Choice of the most beautiful flowers and fruits. Paris, Ernest Panckoucke, [1827-1833]. In-4, 25 x 33cm, [3] ff, 20 pp, [144] plates, contemporary binding in red morocco, gilt filleting and gilt corner fleurons on the boards, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt designs, gilt angular roulette on the edges, gilt inner roulette, parma embossed paper endpapers, gilt edges, green paper covers preserved. First edition of this magnificent album of Redouté's most beautiful plates, the favorites of the "Raphael of flowers", published in issues from March 1827 to June 1833. These 144 botanical plates are finely engraved, printed in colors and slightly enhanced. "A suberb work, one of the finest of all collections of flower prints, showing to full advantage the brilliancy of color printing" (Dunthorne 235). Beautiful copy in red morocco. Handwritten ex-dono from the Count & Countess of Myon to the Viscountess of Chambrun (1844-1931), dated 30september 1864, on the false title. A few light freckles. Pitting on the text leaves. Some plates are mounted on tabs. Marginal traces of serpents.
