VOLTAIRE - [FRÉRON - ROUSSEAU - &c.] Voltariana, ou Éloges amphigouriques de Fr. Marie Arrouet, Sr de Voltaire... discussed and decided for his reception at the French Academy Paris, [Travenol et Mannory], 1748. In-8, full marbled calf, stamped with the arms on the four corners of the boards. Smooth spine decorated. Rubbing to the spines. One spine split over 1 cm. Title with engraved vignette, epistle, table, 258 pp. browned paper. Bound with the Breteuil arms. Reunion of pieces against Voltaire, notably written by Rousseau. "Epitre dedicatoire" signed Timorowitz Ablabew, pseudonym of Fréron who was in turn mocked by Voltaire in his Epigrams: "L'autre jour, au fond d'un vallon, / Un serpent piqua Jean Fréron:/ Que pensez-vous qu'il arrivea... / It was the snake that burst." Bookplate of the Baron de Breteuil.
