Pierre CARTELLIER (1757-1831) d'après, Bust of Louis Napoleon, King of Holland (1806-1810) Alabaster bust on turquoise marble pedestal. Beginning of the 19th century. H. : 43 cm. (Some shocks) Louis Napoleon was king of Holland from 1806 to 1810 under the name of Louis Napoleon I. Brother of Emperor Napoleon I, he became head of the kingdom of Holland thanks to the latter. After a few difficult years, he was forced to abdicate in 1810 leading to the annexation of the kingdom to the French Empire. He lived in exile under the name of the Count of Saint-Leu. He died in 1846. Six years later, his son, Louis-Napoleon, president of the French Republic since 1848, acceded to the imperial throne in 1852, under the name of Napoleon III, thus establishing the Second Empire.
