École Française, fin du XVIIe siècle Large walnut panel carved in high relief representing the panegyric of Louis XIV. The triumphant king, holding a palm on his left and a sword in his right hand, is seated in a chariot drawn by four horses. He is led by a renowned horn blower with a standard bearing the arms of France; Victory, flying above the king's head, holds a laurel wreath. H. : 63 cm - L. : 72 cm (Accidents and restorations) A print preserved in the Metz media library representing the Panegyric of Louis XIV by Sébastien Leclerc (1637-1714) and dated 1680 (inv FIE LEC 3078.15.1) can be compared with our panel (fig)
