Feux Pyriques - Lot 200
Feux Pyriques Anonymous, Paris - 1760/1830 Set of optical views on large paper, framed, gouached and enhanced; with luminous effects of the "day and night" type, by direct vision in daylight and night vision in transparency with backlighting. Handcrafted realizations colored with gouache, which could date from the years of splendor of the Montmorency-Luxembourg hotel (i.e. 1760/1789). However, the reinforcing papers of the frame are cut from newspapers of the 1830s, which could indicate a later realization, or rather a restoration at that time, after many performances. This suite is composed of 7 pieces without apparent title, even if one can recognize a romantic evocation of the great Festes of Versailles through the groves and fountains of the Salle des Rocailles, Neptune, Mercury, Cupid, the Swan, the presence of Actaeon or Jupiter on Olympus. Dimensions 1050 x 760 mm Conditions The whole is generally in good condition, even if we note traces of dirt and small tears in particular in the view of the swan
