"Veduta del molo di Napoli", circa 1776-1780 Folded fan, known as the "Grand Tour", the skin sheet painted with a trompe-l'oeil jumble of scores, excerpts from poems in Italian, and a night view of Vesuvius smoking in imitation of the engraving, with the inscription "Veduta del Monte Vesuvio a luce di notte del 1776". In the center, a view of the port of Naples where ships come to dock. Vesuvius smoking in the background. The legend indicates: "Veduta del molo di Napoli col prospetto del monte Vesuvio a medi giorno". Reverse: Scottish ribbon on which is placed a trompe-l'oeil plate showing a view of the smoking Vesuvius. Finely cut ivory* mount decorated with foliage and stylized volutes. The plumes carved with Chinese-inspired characters. H.t. 28 cm-H.f. 13,2 cm (wear, restoration, stains)
