Cleopatra and Caesar, ca. 1680-1700 - Lot 56
Cleopatra and Caesar, ca. 1680-1700 Fan leaf, painted in gouache, completed for an oval. At the gate of a palace bordered by the sea, a retinue accompanies a lady of quality protected by an umbrella, and preceded by a child. A soldier descends from a rich ship to meet her, presented by a man in a turban. On a cloud above them Cupid shoots an arrow under the gaze of Venus and two doves. It could be the meeting of Cleopatra, preceded by Caesarion, and Caesar.
