Attribué à Jean RAON (1630-1707). - Lot 15
Attribué à Jean RAON (1630-1707). "Allegory of the Summer" White marble bust. H. 58.5 ; l. 46 cm. (wear). Resident at the French Academy in Rome at the expense of the King, Jean Raon returned to France and joined the fabulous construction site of the Palace of Versailles in which he participated alongside Charles Le Brun and André le Nôtre. He delivered a quantity of sculpted groups illustrating the months or the seasons, which will come to decorate the walks in the gardens and the groves. Our bust takes up the features of these beautiful allegorical figures that the artist created with brio, notably the almond-shaped eyes, the small, fleshy lips and the naturalist treatment of the hair tied with ears of wheat.
