Anna de BEAUCHESNE's Album Amicorum]
Album of Anna de Beauchesne, remembrance of her father, 1 January 1847 - 1 July 1850.
One volume in-folio, Italian style; chocolate paper boards decorated with cold vermiculated motifs, stamped with the letters A.B. in gold; smooth spine, titled "Album d'Anna" in gold (period binding).
Size : 27 x 34 cm.
An impressive album, with about 120 leaves, all lined, by Anna du Bois de Beauchesne (1803-1876).
Three quarters of the leaves are illustrated with lithographs cut out and delicately arranged, among whose authors one finds Dévéria, Daumier, Granville, Engelmann, H.Lecomte, Gavarni, etc.
For the other sheets, there are numerous drawings or lithographs executed by members of his family, fifteen of which are portrayed in a sheet entitled: Principaux membres de ma famille, en 1823 (Portraits lithographiés par mon père, à Paris, en 1823). One finds there: "My grandfather", "my father", "my mother", "Annette (Mme d'Egrefeuille) (my elder sister)", "Fanny (Mme de Jancigny) (my 2nd sister)", "Virginie (my 3rd sister)", "Pamela (my 4th sister)", "Arthur (my elder brother)", "Alcide (my 2nd brother)", "Alfred (Anna's father)", "Ernest de Jancigny (my brother-in-law)", "Adolphe de Jancigny (my nephew)", "Ernest de Jancigny (my nephew)", "Arthur de Jancigny (my nephew)", "Aline de Jancigny (my niece)".
We find drawings of Ernest de Jancigny, Isaline d'Egrefeuille, Louisa de Jancigny, "Monique Martin (Sister Stanislas), Aunt of Anna, Superior of the Hospice of Auray (Morbihan) in 1847", but also of Alcide de Beauchesne, the most prolific: Costume of the vicinity of Civita-Vecchia; The Neapolitan Sailor; The Castle of Vincennes; Castle of Neuvy sur Loire (District of Cosne (Nièvre) belonging (in 1821), to M. de Gouëssin); Louisa de Jancigny (1835).
There are also drawn views, some of them watercoloured or in wash, probably souvenirs of travels: Baric and Laurent, Vue d'Allemagne, Vue d'Ecosse; F[éli]x Boquet, Napolitaines, 1834; Hermann-Léon (from the Opéra-Comique), Cascade de Dorch (Ain); Ch. Pelez de Cordova, Rancho Chilien (vicinity of Santiago - South America), 1846; Rue de Cadiz (Spain), 1845; Corot-Laquiante, Le vieux Pont, 1826; Adrien Boieldieu fils, Chapelle, en Italie; Beauvallet [of the Comédie Française], Grecque, Guerrier romain, Schartz (a student of the Conservatoire), Arabe, etc., 1843-47; Cournand, Hameau près d'un Lac (hamlet near a lake); A. Batton, Chapelle, l'arrivée d'un oncle, Donjon, Le combat, 1847; Melle Cottin, Petite fille cueillant des fleurs (Little girl picking flowers); Schneitzhoëffer fils, pupil of Cicéri, Ruines d'un château fort au 12e siècle (Ruins of a fortified castle in the 12th century); Elvire Leroy, Le bon chien (The good dog) d'après Grenier (The good dog after Grenier), 1848; Elisa Bullot, née Français, Chateau des Tournelles, near Farmoutiers (Seine et Marne), 1823; Alph. Brizard, Place de la Ville d'Eu, 1849
Interesting curiosity: one sheet contains two beautiful studies of slaves by François Devosges (1732-1811), described as "my father's drawing master (1770)", (dimensions: 125 x 140 mm.)
