MICHELIN Jules (1817-1870). Louis-Philippe, king of the French (1773-1850). Pendant medallion, oval shape, signed "Michelin J", representing the sovereign in profile, head turned to the right, sculpted in a meteorite, as specified by the historical inscription engraved on the reverse: "Asteroid fallen at the Eagle, April 26, 1823 - July 29, 1830, the fury of passions was going to set everything on fire. Heaven sent it to us. He knew how to calm everything down". Set in a gold frame finely chased with a frieze of acanthus leaves. Marked with an eagle's head. H. : 5,5 cm - L. : 4,5 cm. Gross weight : 42 g. History : on tuesday 26 april 1803, nearly 3000 fragments of a meteorite fell in the region of Laigle. This medallion was made during the twentieth anniversary year following the fall of the meteorite before being offered to King Louis-Philippe (1773-1850); the day of his accession to the throne of France. This medallion was then kept in the direct descent of the sovereign. Provenance: Louis-Philippe, King of the French, then by inheritance in the descent of Prince Henri of France, Count of Paris (1908-1999)
