ROBERTS JAMES (avant 1800-après 1867) * View of Queen Marie Amélie's Bedroom at Claremont. Drawing and gouache on cardboard, signed lower right "J. Roberts, May 1849", preserved in its period giltwood frame, applied to the bottom of the frame of a bronze plaque, bearing the inscription: "Queen Marie Amélie's Bedroom at Claremont (May 1850). Watercolor given by the queen to Mr. the duke of Montmorency". On the reverse side appear two labels of provenance, one of which is dated 1865. Time wear, accidents to the frame. Sight: H.: 24 cm - W.: 34,5 cm. Frame: H.: 45,5 cm - W.: 45 cm. Provenance : former collection of Queen Marie-Amélie, born Princess of Bourbon-Siciles (1782-1866), offered by the sovereign in 1850 to the 6th Duke of Montmorency (1790-1862), then transmitted by descent. Reference : James Roberts is a British painter-watercolorist and was the father of Arthur-Henry Roberts (1819-1900). The latter also realized interior scenes similar to the one we present, one of which represents the cabinet of Queen Marie-Amélie at the Tuileries Palace, sold on March 23, 2018 by the Millon study
