Upholstery and tapestries not of origin Condition of use. Height 107 cm - Length 200 cm - Depth 70 cm. Provenance and history: - Dr Jean d'Herbécourt, Paris. Commissioned in 1908-09, for his Parisian mansion, the famous set designed by Henri Bellery-Desfontaines (1867-1909), in which were included four important paintings by Henri Martin (1860-1943), and now preserved in the Musée Départemental de l'Oise in Beauvais (inv. nos. 74.4.1 to 18 and 74.24.1 to 4). For this commission, Henri Rapin, who was close to Bellery-Desfontaines, was responsible for the design of the woodwork and the door with stained glass. So, it is quite naturally that Dr. Jean d'Herbécourt turned to Henri Rapin to refurbish his salon in the 1920s. - Furniture remained in the descendants of Dr. Jean d'Herbécourt since its creation. Bibliography: Henri Rapin (introduction) - La sculpture décorative moderne (1ère série) - Éditions Charles Moreau, Paris, around 1925. Very slight variation of the model of our armchairs reproduced on plate 14 (ill. 8), detail of an identical model of our sofa or more probably of our work reproduced on plate 14 (ill. 9).
