Inscription on the montage "Etude pour La mort du duc de Guise, ayant appartenu à Horace Vernet", Delaroche's father-in-law. 20 x 28 cm. Anchorings. Provenance: -Gift from Paul Delaroche to Horace Vernet, his father-in-law. -In the descendants of Horace Vernet. Related work: Our drawing is based on the exact pose of the painting "The Assassination of the Duke of Guise" by Paul Delaroche, 1937 (Musée de Condé, Chantilly). A drawing with more elongated proportions, representing the body of Henri de Lorraine, 1834 (study for the assassination of the Duc de Guise) is kept at the Chantilly Museum. We thank Mr Stephen Bann, Delaroche's specialist for the interesting information he gave us.
