The Fashion Calendar, ca. 1750-1760 Folded fan, the skin sheet painted in gouache with twelve medallions illustrated with bust portraits of young women. January with capeline and fur muff, May with fan, and fruit in September. Each bears the name of the month handwritten in Spanish. Painted reverse of a young woman alone and Chinese-inspired compositions. Ivory mount* finely decorated in pairs with fruit, and carved with flowers and baskets. H.t. 26,5 cm H.f. 11,3 cm (restorations and wear) NB: this fan is a version of John June's calendar, published by Voisin, in 1749, in London, with twelve plates with portraits of women illustrating the twelve months of the year. A similar fan is preserved in the collections of the Museo Lazaro Galdiano in Madrid (inv. 4338). See illustration on page 20
