MIKHAÏLOFF Alexandre Mikhaïlovitch (1870- 1934), général-maj - Lot 379
MIKHAÏLOFF Alexandre Mikhaïlovitch (1870- 1934), général-major de l'armée impériale de Russie, conseillé militaire de l'armée blanche
Autograph letter signed "A. Mikhailof", Belgrade, 22 June 1924, addressed to Prince Serge Georgievich Romanovsky, 8th Duke of Leuchtenberg (1890-1974), 4 pages, in-4°, text in Russian. Good condition.
Translation: "Your Highness, yesterday I received your telegram and I transmitted it immediately to General Romanovsky so that he would give it to
Dondoukoff-Iziedinoff [General-Major] who was to leave for Paris. These last few days a real hunt has been made against General Wrangel and his entourage, in particular by General Dragomiroff. The situation is very serious. General
Dragomiroff under the signature and with the blessing of General Wrangel has sent to organizations all over the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia a petition in which they attack our union and claim that our goal is the degradation of the army. I am very worried and I am afraid that the scandal may break out. Personally, I see only one solution. It is to implore His Imperial
Highness, the Commander-in-Chief, to put an end to this rivalry.
By his intervention, all the officers, without differences of party, nor of allegiance (...) will listen as a paternal declaration, with the deep respect they all have for him, out of loyalty and convictions towards him. His intervention will finally be able to stop this wind of discord which has been blowing for some time among certain groups of officers. We must strongly condemn those, particularly like General Dragomiroff, who are turning against each other. Senior officers must strive to ensure a united army. Our union does not deserve such slander. (...)" Historic
letter on the discord of Russian officers in the White Army.
As a result of this letter, the General Union of Russian Combatants (ROVS) was created, founded in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, on September 1, 1924, by General Baron Wrangel. The leader of the ROVS, from December 1924 until his death in 1929, was Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolayevich of Russia.
