Rare large folded fan, Gauze stitch, needle, circa 1890-1900 - Lot 319
Rare large folded fan, Gauze stitch, needle, circa 1890-1900. Elegant composition of great refinement for this extremely fine needlework lace sheet. Framing with garlands of roses in full bloom from which emerge supple sprays of fuchsia and grasses decorated with small beaded patterns, sprays of wheat, each grain of which is worked in relief, medallions with various patterns and small leaves along the edge, a network of great finesse. Light ivory cotton (good condition, rare pale small stains, a very small restoration to the network) The quality of the drawing and the exceptional precision of execution of this leaf at Le Point de Gaze indicate the provenance of a large Belgian workshop. Blonde tortoiseshell* metal frame, trimming pompom with system to block the fan when folded. Frame height: 35 cm. Leaf height: 22 cm. * Scale: Specimens made from the scales of marine turtles, Cheloniidae spp (I/A-EC), a so-called pre-Convention specimen prior to 1 June 1947 (EC Rule 338/97 of 9 December 1996 Art. 2 -W mc). Provenance: Drouot, Paris, April 1989.
