Argentan lace keel, needle, circa 1780-90. Beautiful stem in fine Argentan lace with delicate decoration of knots, ribbons and flowers in bunches, Argentan network with scalloped stitches, all around decorated with a border with garlands of leaflets and medallions in various small fashions and simple network of Alençon. Fine linen thread, colour cream-white. (qes acc. to the network, two tasks). Dim. 2,85 m x 26 cm and 5cm The keel was worn gathered on the front of the dress to adorn it while hiding the seams. Provenance: Barons and Counts van den Steen de Jehay, then by descent. A "quille" of Argentan needle lace, about 1780-90, floral motif with the buttonholes mesh ground. The "keel" is a shaped edging use as a frill to hide the seam in the front of the dress. Dim: 2,85 m x 26 cm at one end and 5 cm at the other ending. (some little holes to the net, two stains) provenance: Barons and Counts van den Steen of Jehay.
