Two large sections in Argentan, needle, France, 18th century. Decorated with undulating garlands following small medallions adorned with fashions and linking supple sprays and wreaths of flowers and foliage, flowers and medallions along the edge, hexagonal mesh network at the buttonhole. Shaded ivory linen. Dim. 88 cm x 13.5 cm at widest. (good condition, delicate very small network restorations) Cf. "Lace a History" Mme Santina M. Levey, Fig. 273 A pair of two falling long type of lappets with matching design of French Argentan handmade needle lace the ground of buttonhole stitch, dating from the 18th century.
