Rare rose stitch flounce, needle, Italy, late 17th century. Large Rose Stitch border of a rare length, probably for a dawn stocking or furniture, with a typical Italian needlepoint lace decoration of the end of the 12th century. Fine twisted scrolls loaded with flowers decorated with fine raised embroidery and small detached patterns forming delicate petals, the motifs connected by very fine ringed and pitted flanges. Light ivory linen slightly grey. Dim. 4.30 m x 21 cm (broken flanges and scattered restorations, low needle border in posterior addition) Cf. "Old Italian lace" Vol.1 Mrs. Elisa Ricci, pl. 327.
