Panel, Margaret Simeon collection, Gros Point de Venise, 3rd quarter of the 17th century. Large needle lace panel, mirror decoration with large, supple scrolls developing on either side of a central motif and charged with large inflorescences decorated with various stitches, embroidered in over-thickness to underline the contours, the motifs linked by thin, ringed and pinched flanges. Pattern repeat: 123 cm. Linen of white/white-cream colour, laid on a periwinkle satin. Dim. lace: 3.30 m x 52 cm (good condition, some broken bridles or discreet restorations) Provenance: Phillips sale, London,9 September 1992, Collection Margaret Simeon. Cf.
